The Hootenanny Convention

Scott Bookman and Olds are joined on this new release by bassist Sam Frantz, and drummer Matt Blank. Primitive Agriculture is a musical dialogue: ALL tracks were spontaneously played and composed with no rehearsal or discussion. The joy of this collaborative is evident from the kinetic- and sometimes frenetic- sounds that emerged during the sessions. Occasionally jam-band trippy, sometimes avant-garde, hints of raw bluesy riffing, single-chord stretches evoking middle eastern drone pieces, moments of  folk rock deconstructed, seconds of computer strangulation- this improvised collection of sounds contains  moments of touching beauty, periods of moody sound meandering, and at times, sharp, atonal tension. Ultimately rewarding for those with experimental leanings, it may challenge some listeners. Exactly.

Got to play the Philly World Cafe Live Stage this week as part of the Beta-Hifi Emerging Artist Festival. Crowd was small (it was early) ,but the sound was amazing. Good road trip with my buddy Tim.
